We hereby announce that the Iberian Federation of Anarchist Youth (FIJA) is now called the Iberian Federation of Libertarian Youth (FIJL). As we have stated on numerous occasions, the approach that our federation chose from the beginning was based on the FIJL of the 1990s. The fact that we chose other acronyms at the time, however, was due to the fact that there were still people and groups from the FIJL in operation, although they had opted for a different organisational strategy to that which this federation had maintained years before. The reason why we chose the term “anarchist” instead of “libertarian” is because we understand them as absolute synonyms, and therefore they refer to exactly the same approach. Now that the situation of this federation has been clarified, and its members have told us of the dissolution of the old federation, we have decided to take up the original acronym again because we consider that our project maintains organisational characteristics akin to a historical and militant heritage of which we are proud. We want to make it clear, however, that we do not disavow the last years of that history, from the end of the 1990s to the dates prior to the issuing of this communiqué. Although we do not share some of the strategies and organisational models that these comrades chose, we are aware that they contributed to the development of anarchism in the Iberian Peninsula. Nevertheless, the current FIJL remains faithful to the concept of organised and federalist anarchism. Without further ado, we bid farewell, putting all the energy at our disposal into our project, which we hope will contribute to making anarchism greater and more widely accepted among the youth.
