The Birth of Our Power.
Preamble to an After-Party.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been protests, riots, and uprisings on nearly every continent, triggered by the rising cost of living and the stupidity of those who govern. Despite the reigning confusion of recent years, we remain in an era of revolutions. By the time you read this, the election in New York City will be over.
But this is just the beginning. Taking power is one thing. Wielding and holding onto it is another. The new administration will face a number of challenges. City Hall will find itself in a confrontation with Wall Street, the NYPD, New York State, and the White House. Zohran’s New York will find itself under siege and facing sabotage from within.
The key question now is whether the movement that emerged around the campaign manages to stay mobilized after the election and how it does so. Changing this balance of forces will require initiative and organization. Between the election and inauguration, there are two months to prepare. What happens now is up to us.
A spectre is haunting New York. The Times has begun to call the neighborhoods that voted overwhelmingly for Zohran the “communist corridor.” Our task is to make this spectre real.
Form neighborhood assemblies. Join tenants associations. Start newspapers and reading groups. Get organized with your friends and neighbors. Be prepared to take whatever the state and capital is not willing to give. Forever is going to start tonight.
